Camden Area High Schools Pioneer New Trend in School Curriculum

Remember back in the day when you and your friends would steal the colored sharpies from the art room and draw Celtic crosses, tribal designs and  Tazmanian Devils all over each others calves and forearms in the back of economics class? Do you remember how sad you were when they finally faded and you regretted telling everyone they were real? Well children no longer have to endure such impermanence and heartache. Now the heartache and regret can last forever.

Many high schools around the country have added some new courses to their art programs. In addition to Crafts 1&2, Drawing 1 &2, students can now study  Prison Tats 1,  Tattoo 1, Tattoo 2 , and  Scarification 1.

The Advanced Education Programs offer Advanced Body Modication and Penile Bifuraction and Castration.

One of the first schools to offer these programs was Don Rico Buscardo Batarde High School In Camden, NJ.

Prison Tat 1 student Sebastian scratched out this beauty during 4th period . He  is working on mastering the Sharpie look,only without the impermanence.

Mr. Lubner's 3rd period student, Erika, had a few points taken off  her rendition of " An Ink Rose for Emily " because she used a sander and developed a staph infection.  Next year she says she wants to take Scarification 1, because she thinks she has a knack for it.

Dalton from Mr. Squillaces 7th period Prison Tats 1 is learning that there is no such thing as practice makes perfect when it comes to anarchy and Gwar.

"That boy had better slow down and save some skin for Prison Tats 2", Mr. Squillace remarked.

Dalton did this whimsical pectoral piece on his dad Fred as extra credit.  Dalton is pioneering what he calls the shabby chic crackle effect.

When asked about his curious style Dalton said,  "Yeah, I want my ink to be special I want people to see and know who did it, I want them to be like whoa dude! You know?"

Riley from Ms. Destiny's 9th period Tattoo 1 class is well on his way to perfecting the multifaceted Tramp stamp.

Ms. Destiny said that, "... he really has an eye for shading and design, but he needs to work on fine detail. He's in mitten mode right now, and all of his faces seem to look like Aphex Twin masks."

She holds out hope that next year he will decide to take Tattoo 2 and hone his skills.

On a visit to the school last May, President Bush was quoted as saying, "Way to go kids! Keeping American traditions alive is as American as it can get. I commend you and your contributions to society. If you study hard and do all your homework you can be a fine part of the lower middle American slice of the American pie that people sometimes eat, that we also  like to call life. Nothing can hold you back from your dreams as long as you don't typify ethnic stereotypification mannerisms particular to your racial agenda."

For now these classes are mainly offered in highschools located in urban centers around the country." The popularity of this program has far exceded our expectations,"  Superintendant Sutphen, was quoted as saying. It seems that the majority of public schools will be adding these classes to their line up by fall 2009.
