F@cked up toast is reborn

EMToast dotcom. was a really fun project, started in 2008.  A friend and site contributor brought up the idea of wanting to have a website to post on.  it sounded fun so I quickly set up a website for us and enlisted a couple others to join. 

We all had such a great time coming up with crazy ideas and writing stories for the site. In those days, the internet was still alive and there was pretty heavy site traffic and a lot of commenters. 

One of our posts even went viral and made it to snopes https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/grape-ice-cream/  That was back in the days when fake news was fun.  

Over the years, contributors left one by one.  A couple of us kept it going, but eventually it was basically just me.  I kept posting on and off for about 15 years.  One day I realized, the site had to die.  Hosting fees had gone up into the hundreds over the years, and this was all out of my pocket.  So in 2023, I decided to stop paying for hosting, and let the site die. It took 2 years for the hosting to totally run out. 

Once that happened, EMToast started to come back to life. First we set up EMToast.exe  on the blogger.com platform that Google runs.  The site format reminds me of the early days of the site.  

I still missed the old content though. I had generated an Ebook of the old stuff, but it just wasn't the same.  So I resurrected a backup on the Wordpress site on my home computer, converted it to a static site and posted it to 3 mirrors. These sites will never change, they are a record of EMToast content between 2008-2023

This is the EMToast.exe concept.  If the site is posted everywhere and anywhere, maybe it will outlive all of us in some form.

So our current step is this site.  I was able to import all the old Wordpress posts into Publii and post it all up here https://emtoast.netlify.app on Neflify.

I'm also in the process of submitting for a new domain - emtoast.eu.org as well.

So this is a very long way of saying, this will be the new living version of EMToast.

well i've finally done it.  i've re-started a site all about toast.
